Short-Term Availability Calendar
The Short-Term Availability Calendar allows all DGC BC Members in Good Standing to adjust their availability or search for crew within a three-month window. With this resource, Members can:
- Update their availability in real time.
- Specify availability for individual job categories.
- Search for available Members on specific dates by job category.
- Message available Members about job opportunities.
The information contained within the calendar is provided by Members. Availability updates made to the Calendar will not appear on the DGC BC website nor will they have any impact on the DGC BC's Internal Forecast Lists or Weekly Availability Lists. This is an additional resource for those either looking to hire, or looking for work, on a short-term or immediate basis.
Members actively seeking work are encouraged to use all of the resources available to them, including the DGC BC Weekly Availability List(s). Productions looking to crew are not obligated to consider Members from the Availability Calendar when submitting a permit request.

Your Account/Profile
All DGC BC Members in Good Standing can log in to the Availability Calendar, however, a Member's account/profile will only be visible IF:
- they have added their availability to the calendar
- their availability matches another Member's crew search criteria (job category and availability dates)
For Example: Three ALM Members are all logged into the Availability Calendar. One of them has added to the calendar that they are available to work as an ALM. This Member is the only one that will appear in a search for an ALM, provided the searched dates fit within the Member's availability information.
As shown in the above example, the information contained within the calendar is provided by the Member. Their availability update made to the Availability Calendar did not appear on the DGC BC website nor did the change have any impact on the DGC BC's Internal Forecast Lists or Weekly Availability Lists. The ALM Member is responsible for ensuring that their information is up to date and accurate.
Updating Your Profile
The profile found in the Availability Calendar is separate from the one found on the DGC BC website. It includes:
- Member Name
- Current DGC BC job category
- Email address and phone number
A Member wishing to update their contact information will need to submit the changes through the Member Section of the DGC website at dgc.ca/en/members. Please note that changes take 1-2 business days to be processed.
Members will have the opportunity to express interest in working in any (or all) DGC BC job categories (with the exception of Director and 2nd Unit Director), however, Member profiles on the Availability Calendar and DGC BC website will only reflect their current job category. Learn about the requirements to upgrade your job category here.
Additionally, a profile on the Availability Calendar includes:
- a link to the Member's DGC profile
- active availability listings via the calendar for all job categories
- any extra information provided by the Member
- a button to send a message to the Member
Members can preview their profile to see how it will look to those who are searching for crew. Learn more about profile visibility here.
Adding Your Availability
The Availability Calendar allows all DGC BC Members in Good Standing to add their availability within a three-month window. As the Availability Calendar is a Member generated resource, individual Members are responsible for ensuring that the information they provide is accurate and kept up to date. When using the Availability Calendar to find work, Members should consider the following excerpt from the 2019 Executive Board Training Policy:
Setting standards of excellence and endorsing our Members abilities are among the most important aspects of what our organization can do to maintain and strengthen our local industry. When a Member achieves an upgrade the DGC BC, as their representing Union, and each of us as individual Board Members, must be able to stand by the skills that person brings to their job site daily.
Members have the opportunity to express interest in working in any (or all) DGC BC job categories (with the exception of Director and 2nd Unit Director). However, it's important that the Member feels qualified and capable to perform the duties required of those positions they've made themselves available to work in. It's also important to note that Member profiles on the Availability Calendar and DGC BC website will reflect their current job category.
For Example: Anton is an Associate Member and just added that they are available to work for the next month in the job categories of PM, UM, LM, TAD, and OPA. Julie, searching for a TAD to join their team for two weeks, clicks on Anton's profile which shows that Anton is an Associate Member. Julie also sees that Anton is listed as available as a PM, UM, LM, TAD and OPA for the next month.
As Julie can see the multiple and various job categories Anton has expressed interest in, it may influence them to choose another candidate.
To Add Your Availability:
The Availability page, which allows Members to review their current availability information and add new availability information, can be accessed from the welcome screen or by clicking the calendar icon at the bottom of the page.

- Select the dates you are available to work. If you are available to work for two weeks, you will need to select each individual date on the calendar.
- Select CREATE ANOTHER to add additional job category(ies) by repeating steps 2 and 3.
- Select SAVE to add the availability information to the calendar
Member will only see their availability on the designated availability page. Members will not be able to see their own availability in a search for available Members.
Keeping Your Availability Accurate: Editing Your Availability
The Availability Calendar can only be an effective hiring resource if Members keep their information updated. When a Member is hired by a production, they need to either delete or edit their availability information.
For example: Annabelle has added to the calendar that they are available as a 2AD from August 28 until September 7. They are contacted by Rob who is looking for a 2AD to join their team. They discuss the details and agree that Annabelle will join the team from August 29 - September 4.
Annabelle is now responsible for editing their availability on the calendar to show that they are only available on August 28 and September 5-7 as a 2AD. Annabelle will edit their availability using these steps:
- Access the Availability page via the welcome screen or using the calendar icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Select the job category/availability.
- Remove the necessary dates so that only the available days are left behind.
- Select SAVE to update your availability.
If there are multiple availability entries, Annabelle will need to update each one individually using the steps above.
Alternatively, Annabelle can delete their availability from the calendar completely.
Keeping Your Availability Accurate: Deleting Your Availability
The Availability Calendar can only be an effective hiring resource if Members keep their information updated. When a Member is hired by a production, they need to either delete or edit their availability information.
For example: Annabelle has added to the calendar that they are available as a 2AD from August 28 until September 7. They are contacted by Rob who is looking for a 2AD to join their team. They discuss the details and agree that Annabelle will join the team.
Annabelle is now responsible for deleting their availability on the calendar using these steps:
- Access the Availability page via the welcome screen or using the calendar icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Select the job category/availability.
- Select DELETE ENTRY in the bottom right corner of the page.
- If there are multiple availability entries, they can be deleted all at once from the Availability page by selecting DELETE ALL, found at the bottom of the page.
Alternatively, Annabelle can edit their availability dates on the calendar.
Searching the Availability Calendar
The Availability Calendar is a Member generated resource. Individual Members using the calendar are responsible for ensuring their availability information is accurate.
Members can search for crew within a three-month window and have the option of searching for multiple job categories at one time. To submit a crew search, at least one job category AND date(s) must be selected.
Please note that searching multiple job categories at one time could lead to a high number of results. While finding multiple options sounds good in theory, sorting through multiple profiles may slow down the search for available crew.
Understanding Your Results
The results should show any Members that fit the selected search criteria. The search criteria can be found at the top of the page under Results. A search for a 2nd AD on September 5 will give provide a list of all the Members looking for work in that position on that date. Their recognized DGC BC job category can be found under the Member's name.
If no Members have submitted availability that matches the search criteria, the search page will indicate No Results Found.
The Availability Calendar is just one of the many resources available to Members in their search to find crew. If the Availability Calendar doesn't return any results, the DGC BC office can provide the current Weekly Availability List(s) and Internal Forecast Lists to assist in finding crew.
Viewing Member Profiles
Members will have the opportunity to express interest in working in any DGC BC job categories (with the exception of Director and 2nd Unit Director), however, Member profiles on the Availability Calendar and DGC BC website will reflect their current job category.
In the results page, selecting the Member's name will open their Availability Calendar profile. This profile can include:
- Member's availability information--for all job categories they've entered
- email address
- phone number
- link to the Members' profile on the DGC BC website
- extra information (if the Member has added any)
The profile also includes the option to send the Member a message via the Availability Calendar.
Finding Member Resumes
To find out if a Member has a resume available to review, select VIEW DGC MEMBER PROFILE on their Availability Calendar Profile. This will open their DGC Member profile page in a new tab.
For Mobile Devices: Scroll past the Member bio (if applicable), contact form (if applicable), photo (if applicable), to the CONTACT INFORMATION section where DOWNLOAD CV is located. To view their resume (if applicable), click English version or French version to open the Member's resume in a new tab. Some Members may not have submitted a resume for inclusion on the DGC's public website for privacy reasons.
For Desktop/Tablet Users: The CONTACT INFORMATION section is to the right-hand side of the page. This is where DOWNLOAD CV is located. To view their resume (if applicable), click English version or French version to open the Member's resume in a new tab. Some Members may not have submitted a resume for inclusion on the DGC's public website for privacy reasons.
If there is no resume on the website, the hiring Member can message or contact the available Member to request one.
Checking Your Messages
Members searching for crew may choose to contact available Members about job opportunities via email, text, phone call or through the Availability Calendar's built-in messaging feature. The Availability Calendar does not enable any type of push notifications for mobile devices. It is up to the Member to check the Availability Calendar for any new messages.
When a Member has a new message, an exclamation point will appear in the speech bubble and both will appear red instead of black.
The messaging feature is available when:
- A Member shows up in a crew search and their profile is selected.
- Two Members have previously messaged about a job opportunity and the conversation was never removed.
The Message page also includes a search function to assist Members in finding specific conversations.
Removing Messages
Keep the message inbox clear by removing conversations as needed.
- Select a conversation.
- In the top menu, next to the Member's name and phone number, are three horizontal dots.
- Select REMOVE CONVERSATION.
If you've been engaged by a Member to work on a production via the Availability Calendar, be sure you have taken down their preferred method of contact before removing the conversation.
Blocking Messages
Members have the ability to block unwanted messages sent through the Availability Calendar. It is up to each individual Member's personal preference whether or not they decide to block messages from being sent from another Member.
To block messages from a sender:
- Select the conversation.
- In the top menu, next to the Member's name and phone number, are three horizontal dots.
- Select BLOCK USER
Please note that blocking a user will only prevent a Member from sending you messages through the Availability Calendar. They may still be able to reach you via email or by text message or phone call.
The DGC BC Weekly Availability Lists are emailed to productions each Monday (Full Member) and Friday (Associate Member) barring a stat holiday closure. It includes the names and contact details of the Members who contacted the office throughout the week.
The Weekly Availability Lists are a resource Members can use to find work and that helps save hiring parties time searching through a larger list. These are the the lists that people need to review to submit a permit request.
A version of the Full Member and the Associate Member Weekly Availability Lists without contact information are available on the DGC BC website. Members can request the list(s) with contact information from their production or by contacting the office.
The policy for listing on the DGC BC Weekly Availability Lists can be found here.
DGC BC Internal Forecast Lists
The DGC BC office sends Internal Forecast Lists to productions with its startup paperwork and when requested by hiring parties. They include all Good Standing DGC BC Members and are organized by job category.
Members cannot be removed from the Internal Avails List, but they can adjust their availability through the Member Section of the website.
To further assist productions finding crew, the DGC BC created three specialized Internal Avails Lists for the Associate Members classifications: OPA, TAD, or TAL.
All Associate Members, unless they have requested otherwise, are automatically on the OPA, TAD, and TAL lists. Associate Members can opt-out of the OPA, TAD, or TAL lists if they do not wish to work in those positions by emailing info@dgcbc.com.
Please contact the office to request an Internal Forecast List. Members must provide the name of the production they are hiring for, their role on the production and the position(s) they are trying to fill.
Note: Being on an Internal Forecast List is not the same as being on the Weekly Availability List.
DGCBC.com Member Search
The DGC BC website allows Members to be searched by name or job category. There is an Advanced Member Search for BC at the end of the Availability Lists page.
This Advanced Search allows only Members that are currently availably to appear in the results. The Advanced Member Search can be used outside of DGC BC office hours to provide hiring parties a list of Members to contact regarding a job opportunity.
