The Green Scene: Sustainable Production in Focus
Hi everyone,
I recently took Reel Green’s Sustainable Production Training course – a fun 2-hr online seminar.
It starts with a quick primer on the science of climate change, and leads to some great information on how you can make positive changes in your day-to-day life as well as on set. What’s the difference in environmental impact between choosing a large latte made with cow’s milk and one made with oat milk? Almost a third of a Kg less in CO2 equivalent emissions when you choose oat over dairy!* I found it both interesting and inspiring.
It’s a free course--more information and upcoming dates can be found here.
*200ml of North American cow’s milk @ 561g CO2e vs 200ml of oat milk @ 289g CO2e (a difference of 272g of emissions) SOURCE.
In case you missed it, here’s a great little 12-minute video by Reel Green (from 2018 but still very relevant) of things happening here in Vancouver (hello DGC BC Members Zach Lipovsky, Sean Kerr, Clara George, Warren Carr, Barbara Ann Schoemaker, Agam Darshi, Casey Nelson-Zutter).
Check out this 4-minute video by Netflix featuring (among other international productions) some of our very own DGC BC Members on Virgin River - Season 5 (Neil Williams, Ian Hay, Kassandra Rockandel). There’s an exciting shift happening right now and the big studios are getting on board.
Change is really possible – be a part of it!
For ideas on ways to effect change, check out DGC National’s DGC Green site as well as Creative BC’s Reel Green website for new industry initiatives, green vendors, events and courses you can take.
Tell me what your show is doing to be more sustainable! Do you have a green tip or success story you'd like us to share in a future Ebulletin? Send me an email at awilczur@dgcbc.com.
