MDC-Member Apprentice Program

Thank you for your interest in joining the Directors Guild of Canada. 

The MDC-Member Apprentice Program (MDC-MAP) is administered by the DGC Manitoba and is designed for people who do not have the required 150 days for membership.

IMPORTANT ITEMS TO CONSIDER BEFORE APPLYING TO THE 
MEMBER APPRENTICE PROGRAM 

  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident residing in the Province of Manitoba.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed. Applications must include all required documents in one PDF file.
  • The DGC reserves the right to cap the number of MDC-MAP applicants accepted per calendar year
  • If not accepted into the program, candidates are eligible to re-apply in future months.

Once these requirements are met, qualified individuals can email copies of all requirements to aparadis@dgc.ca.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO JOIN THE MDC-MAP?

Applicants are required to have completed, and submit the following:

1. At least fifteen (15) days of engagement on DGC Signatory Productions in a DGC job classification.  To obtain a report of your DGC days, contact the DGC office.
2. Completed all required courses; Set Orientation, Safety Awareness & WHMIS through Film Training Manitoba or an alternative equivalent.
3. Submit three (3) letters of reference. These may be from Members, previous employers, professors or other professional references.
4. MDC-MAP Administration Fee of $100.00 plus applicable taxes.

HOW DO I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE MDC-MAP?

Once enrolled in the program, all MAP participants are required to work an additional 60 days in the program and complete the required fundamentals courses, to successfully complete the program.

For example, if you have the required 15 days when you are accepted into the MAP Program you will need an additional 60 days to be able to apply for Membership.  If you have 60 days when you are accepted into the MAP Program you will still need 60 days to apply for Membership.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE MDC-MAP?

Becoming an MDC MAP Participant will assist you with finding work on DGC productions, and provide you with entry-level training for working on film & television sets in Manitoba. Other benefits include:

  1. An MDC-MAP Participant can obtain their DGC Membership with as little as 75 days of engagement over three separate productions! Non participants require at least 150 days over three separate productions.
  2. All MDC-MAP Participants will be listed on the DGC Manitoba availability lists, and the DGC Manitoba Production List when working.
  3. All MDC-MAP Participants can receive practical training towards their Membership at no additional cost
  4. All MDC-MAP Participants will be connected with the Guild offices, will be able to access more resources and will be informed of more training opportunities.
  5. The Guild will review engagement through our partnering organizations, including the National Screen Institute, as days towards your membership.
