Su Rynard is an award winning director/writer for dramatic feature and documentary films, factual and lifestyle television. With more than twenty years of experience, she has garnered multiple awards and nominations including: Top Ten Audience Award from Hot Docs Film Festival, Rockie Award from Banff World Media Festival, Golden Sheaf Award from the Yorkton Film Festival, Winner of the Pariscience Prix Buffon, Winner Best Conservation Film Jackson Hole Film Festival, and more.
Su Rynard is currently developing a feature documentary SEEING GREEN with the support of The Redford Centre (USA). She recently directed a one-hour science/environment television special REEF RESCUE produced by Winnipeg's Merit Motion Pictures for CBC (Canada) / ARTE (France) / Vulcan (USA), and an independent feature documentary on Canadian pianist Eve Egoyan, DUET FOR SOLO PIANO.In 2017 Rynard directed MOSQUITO (2017). Produced for the Discovery Network US by YAP films in Toronto. MOSQUITO narrated by Oscar nominated Jeremy Renner, premiered at AFI Docs with over twenty million people viewing the single day global broadcast premiere. Rynard’s documentary THE MESSENGER (2015) received ten awards, and has had a solid theatrical run in the USA with Kino Lorber, as well US Netflix.
Rynard also created a successful five part web-series DON'T BLINK (2018) that doubled audience expectation numbers for Facebook Watch and Discovery GO (USA). Her dramatic feature KARDIA (2006) was awarded the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Hamptons Film Festival. Her films have screened in festivals around the world including the Toronto Intl Film Festival and the Rotterdam Intl Film Festival.
Su Rynard has directed drama and documentary on a number of series television projects including seven seasons on MAYDAY/AIR CRASH INVESTIGATION (2008-2014) for US National Geographic & Discovery CA and two episodes for CBC’s THE NATURE OF THINGS. She has also served as a story editor / script advisor for MAYDAY and more recently DISASTERS AT SEA. From 2000 to 2007 she directed numerous half-hour television series for Breakthrough films, Primitive Entertainment, Red Apple Entertainment, Aphrodite Films, Paperny Films, Triptych Media, Chocolate Box and Westwind Films.
Su Rynard is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and was a Director Resident at the Canadian Film Centre. She is inspired by art, life, science, people, ecology, and the human relationship to the natural world.
