CANADIAN GOVERNMENT MUST SUPPORT CANADIAN TALENT, WRITES DGC PRESIDENT TIM SOUTHAM
DGC President Tim Southam has written an opinion piece for Canadian media magazine Playback reflecting on Minister Melanie Jolie's cross-Canada consultation on Canadian Content in a Digital World. Mr. Southam attended one of the consultation sessions held by the federal Heritage Minister in Vancouver on September 26. The majority of the people in attendence were content creators from across Canada who shared their views on the direction of Canadian content.
Mr. Southam writes "We live in a time where audiences everywhere seek original, innovative and authentic stories. There is no reason to believe Canada is an exception. A film or TV series where none of the creative leaders are Canadian will not have a distinctive voice, even if it is shot in Canada. Removing our voice diminishes our capacity to compete, and over time shrinks our talent pool."
