CBC LAUNCHES NEW BREAKING BARRIERS FILM FUND
The CBC has announced their new film fund, Breaking Barriers Film Fund, which will support underrepresented filmmakers in Canada.
The CBC will contribute at least 7.5 million dollars to the fund over the course of the next three years.
The announcement was made by Heather Conway, executive vice-president of English Services at CBC, at the Reel Asian International Film Festival in Toronto.
"We are striving to make a meaningful difference by supporting underrepresented creators directly and investing in their films," Conway said. "It's a really difficult area for people to get financing, and it's an especially difficult area for the groups we are talking about: women, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities and visible minorities."
The DGC applauds the CBC for joining us and other film organizations in creating initiatives to encourage diverse voices.
