The Directors Guild of Canada commends the CRTC for its thoughtful report that calls for all players in the system, including foreign streaming services, ISPs and traditional broadcasters, to contribute to the production and discoverability of Canadian content.

Harnessing Change: The Future of Programming Distribution in Canada, released by the CRTC on Thursday, dismisses calls for deregulation in favour of a modernized, comprehensive regulatory model applicable to all content delivery platforms which will promote innovation and sustainability. This is our best strategy for adapting to an ever-changing digital environment and reflects the Guild’s belief that all players operating in Canada have a responsibility to invest in a healthy film and television production sector right here at home.

“The CRTC report correctly highlights the core principle that Canadians should have access to high quality productions made for and by Canadians and provides timely guidance for the government as it launches the next important step in this process, the review of the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Acts” said DGC National Executive Director Brian Baker.
