Toronto – Director Guild of Canada National Executive Director Brian Baker congratulated Minister of Heritage Mélanie Joly and Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains on today’s announcement of a new expert panel to review Canada’s Broadcasting and Telecommunications Acts.
“We are thrilled with the dedicated and thoughtful the Ministers have selected for this effort,” said Baker. “These seven individuals will carry a tremendous responsibility, navigating how Canadians can update and adapt our cultural policies for the 21 century.”
Baker reiterated the DGC’s support for the vision laid out in the CRTC’s digital report on the future of programming in Canada last week.
“This review has to focus on modernizing our broadcast policies for the digital era and giving us the tools to implement the kind of vision laid out last week by the CRTC, a system where all parties in the broadcasting system are contributing to the creation of original Canadian programming.”
