DGC APPLAUDS INCREASES TO MANITOBA TAX CREDITS
Manitoba’s new 2020 budget enhances Film and Video Production Tax Credit

WINNIPEG - The Directors Guiild of Canada offered congratulations the Manitoba government on their plans to increase the Film and Video Production Tax Credit in the 2020-21 budget.

“We want to applaud the government on this,” said Cathie Edgar DGC Chair of the Manitoba District Council, “this will only further energize a home-grown Manitoba industry that is steadily growing year after year.”

In the 2018-19 fiscal year, the Manitoba media production industry produced $269.4 million in total production volume — almost double the 2016-17 sum of $139 million according to reports On Screen Manitoba.

The Manitoba government announced today that a new Manitoba Production Company Bonus will boost the total cost-of-production credit from 30% to 38%. This increase hopes to promote a rise in investments from the private-sector — as well as attract more new business.

“This momentum in Manitoba echoes the drive we’re seeing in film & television production across Canada,” said Tim Southam, President of the DGC. “Governments are recognizing that investing in the Canadian cultural sector not only improves our society, but also grows our economy.”
