Directors Guild of Canada President Warren P. Sonoda issued the following statement, congratulating the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez on his new role as Minister of Canadian Heritage:

“I want to be the first to congratulate Pablo Rodriguez on his return to the role of Minister of Canadian Heritage. The federal government’s continued support for our sector during the COVID-19 pandemic has been appreciated by all in our industry. We look forward to working with Minister Rodriguez to complete the urgent mandate of modernizing federal broadcasting legislation to ensure the sustainability of our creative ecosystem and allow Canadian creators to continue telling their own stories.

“The DGC would also like to take the opportunity to thank the Honourable Steven Guilbeault for his important contributions to the film & television sector during his term as Minister of Canadian Heritage.

“Minister Guilbeault is an outspoken and passionate advocate for Canada’s creatives. He stood for Canadian creators, created a mandate for diversity and inclusion in the institutions under the Heritage portfolio and heard DGC’s commitment to creating a more sustainable and greener screen industry. We wish him well in his new role as Minister of Environment.”
