DGC Congratulates New Minister of Heritage
Cabinet will face swift timelines on regulating internet giants

Toronto - Directors Guild of Canada President Tim Southam released the following statement regarding the appointment of Steven Guilbeault as the new Minister of Canadian Heritage.

“On behalf of the entire Directors Guild of Canada and the broader film & television industry, I'd like to congratulate Steven Guilbeault on his appointment as Minister of Canadian Heritage.

“Mr. Guilbeault takes office at a critical turning point for Canadian culture. New streaming services and online platforms are launching almost weekly in Canada. It is past time that we modernize the rules for our broadcasting & telecommunications sectors.

“Early in the New Year, the government’s expert panel will recommend new policies for global streaming services operating in Canada. In his first weeks and months on the job, the Minister will have an opportunity to act on this government’s commitment to culture and Canadian creators and make historic changes that will secure a future for our sector into the digital age. I congratulate the Minister and look forward to meeting with him and his staff to get to work on these pressing concerns."
