Dear Members,

On the occasion of Earth Day, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection, the DGC National Sustainable Climate Action Committee is pleased to announce new commitments and resources that will make the Guild and our industry more sustainable for decades to come.

The first announcement represents an important shift in the Guild’s vision, better representing our values: At the February meeting of the DGC Health & Welfare Trust, our trustees passed a motion to divest from fossil fuel-related holdings. We are pleased to say, the Trust’s financial advisors have identified alternative equity and income funds to achieve this goal meet the plan’s investment policy objectives. These new clean funds will enable the Trust to divest from over 99% of the fossil fuel positions present in our current portfolio. The Fund’s advisors also have a mandate to continue to look for options for complete divestment.

Today, we are also rolling out new resources to help members achieve greater sustainability on productions. The launch of dgcgreen.ca in October 2021 was a first step in this direction, providing top tips for each department to become more sustainable on set and at the office. In order to provide all members the opportunity to acquire and enhance new sustainability skills, DGC National will now also offer a comprehensive sustainability primer course available online and free of charge. We invite you to enroll in the “The Spark: Your Sustainable Production Primer” as of today, via the DGC Green new training page or the DGC.ca main website.

In order to spread the word about the dgcgreen.ca website and advertise its resources, promotional material including sustainably produced pins, posters and stickers will soon become available for distribution at your local District Council. In the meantime, you can download a high-quality digital version of our new DGC Green poster.

In solidarity,
