DGC LAUDS NOVA SCOTIA’S INVESTMENT IN NEW FILM FUND

Directors Guild praises NS government’s $23 million for film & TV industry

Directors Guild of Canada President Warren P. Sonoda and DGC Atlantic Regional Council Chair Sarah MacLeod congratulated the Government of Nova Scotia today on their commitment to sustainability and growth in the province’s film & television industry with $23 million in new investments.

“These investments are proof that Nova Scotia, and the Atlantic region in general, are great places to shoot film & television,” said DGC Atlantic Chair Sarah MacLeod. “This is the show of confidence our industry has needed at the provincial level to give our members a chance to showcase their talents to the world and attract new productions to our province.”

DGC President Warren P. Sonoda added: “This investment will not only create jobs and help grow our industry in Nova Scotia, but it will help protect Canadian culture in the Atlantic provinces and beyond. As someone who’s had the privilege to spend years directing on some of the East Coast’s top comedy shows, I know the richness and cultural impact this region has on our country, and I know that investments like this are essential to safeguard that contribution for future generations.”

The investment is set to put:

  • $8 million towards a 50,000 square foot soundstage located in the Halifax Regional Municipality that will increase the industry’s capacity, create more jobs, and allow productions to continue year-round;
  • $15 million (over five years) for a new Nova Scotia Content Creator Fund that will benefit local film & television productions.
