A message from DGC National President Tim Southam:

On December 2nd, John Anthony Board, a tireless and beloved member of the Directors Guild of Canada, passed away at age 84.

John was an Assistant Director, Producer and mentor to many in his more than five decades in the Guild. A talented creator and stalwart advocate for our industry, he served as DGC Ontario Chair in 1987-88 and Director Caucus Rep from 1995-97.

John worked with many of the greats of Canadian film including Don Shebib, Allan King, Norman Jewison and his long-time collaborator David Cronenberg with whom he helped craft The Brood, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch and M. Butterfly. John was also a friend and mentor to several generations of up and coming filmmakers. Many will remember with affection his tireless and often unique contributions to their careers.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, December 9th at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre in Toronto. Details can be found here.
