“Final Four” highlights bold new voices in feature film 

Toronto– DGC National Directors Division Chair Warren P. Sonoda and Jury Chair Ingrid Veninger today announced the official “short list” nominees for the Directors Guild of Canada 2017 Discovery Award.

Mass For Shut-Ins – Winston DeGiobbi

Never Steady, Never Still – Kathleen Hepburn

The Discovery short list accompanied the release of the DGC Red Carpet Roundtables (here & here) hosted by Eli Glasner, featuring DGC Award nominees: Stefan Brogren, Helen Shaver, Aleysa Young, J.J. Johnson, Daniel Grou, Tiffany Hsiung, Nathan Morlando, and Ken Girotti. 

The DGC Discovery Award is presented to the Director of a feature film that reflects a bold, new cinematic voice. The film can be the Director’s 1st or 2nd film, or it may be that it represents a new direction for an established filmmaker. 

The award will be presented as part of the 16th edition of the annual DGC Awards Gala on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at The Carlu in Toronto with host Mary Walsh.
