The Directors Guild of Canada commends the federal government’s fulfillment of commitments made last year to strengthen this country’s screen-based industry with increased financial resources.

“This budget demonstrates the Liberal government’s recognition of the important contribution cultural industries make to growing our economy by leveraging the enormous job-generating potential of the creative sector,” stated Tim Southam, DGC National President.  “The important investments in culture and the arts announced today will strengthen support for Canadian creators and enhance Canada’s reputation as a creative and innovative nation.”

Today’s federal budget commits new funding for Canada’s cultural institutions including the CBC, National Film Board and Telefilm.  “There is still work to be done to ensure stable, long-term financing for the screen-based industries, but this is definitely a giant positive step forward,” added Brian Baker, DGC National Executive Director. “The DGC is looking ahead now and will continue its work with industry partners to ensure the arts sector remains top of mind of our country’s decision makers.
