FAQs:
1. How are projects evaluated?
All completed applications will be sent out to the jury for review. The jury will review the applicant letters, project synopsis and CVs. The top 16 applicants will be invited to prepare a five-minute pitch (done virtually). Each environment will have four finalists selected to pitch, of which 2 Directors will be invited to the work shop.
Submissions will be evaluated based on the strength of the applicant letters, CV, and Director vision deck. Applicants are encouraged to clearly outline why the opportunity is important to them at this point in their career in their letters. The synopsis will give applicants the opportunity to show the jury their creativity. No film genre is off limits, Directors are asked to imagine a story based on one of the four environments: Ice Expedition; A Walk in the Park; Rooftop Bar in a Future City; or Battle Ramparts, using a limited cast (up to four cast members) for each film. (See details below).
2. Who is the jury that will be voting on the applications?
The jury will be made up of both DGC National and DGC Ontario members. The jury will include National District Council representatives, as well as an Editor, Production Designer, Production Manager and Director.
3. When will I know if I have been selected?
Directors will be notified by the 25thof May. We will make every effort to contact all finalists to let you know whether or not your pitch was successful.
4. What happens once I am selected?
The producers of the event will reach out and connect you with the production team who will work with you to produce your film. All prep will be done remotely until we take over the stage from June 20-24. Directors will go through the full virtual pre-production process, including asset and practical floor planning with the production designer, PIXO and WFW teams.
5. Can I submit more than one application?
No, applicants may only submit one application so please make sure it represents your best work.
6. Can I get feedback on my submission?
Due to the high volume of applications, we cannot give individual feedback on any submission.
7. Is there ANY circumstance that would allow me to have an extension on the submission deadline?
No. To be fair towards everyone who submits, extensions will not be granted. Please note that deadlines are set as of 8:00pm ET (Eastern Time).
8. If I'm part of a Directing team (as defined by the DGC collective agreement), do we each need to submit an application?
