Training

The combined efforts of the various DGC Councils across the country are in discussions on how to improve training opportunities for our membership. We are looking at some form of SHARED TRAINING courses and will hopefully have more information on this in the coming weeks.

NLDGC Bursary Program

In accordance with NLDGC’s PD Mission Statement, a bursary fund has been established to assist all NL members with their own personal professional development initiatives ranging from on-the-job shadowing to computer courses, to college courses, etc. Each NL member is eligible for a $500 bursary grant per fiscal year. This bursary money can be used to help members participate in workshops, training courses, university/technical institute courses, and mentorships, which enable them to upgrade their current skill sets. The skills learned must be relevant to a particular Guild job classification and also enhance their opportunity for future career advancement. All bursary requests must be received in writing by the PD Committee. A resume, along with a letter of acceptance in the class/workshop, etc., must accompany the application form. All applications shall be reviewed by the PD Committee, with funding to be disbursed upon successful completion of the course in an amount determined by the PD Committee. The applicant shall be notified as to the approved bursary amount within two-three weeks of receipt of the application. All decisions of the NLDGC PD Committee shall be considered final.
