Caitlin Starowicz

An award-winning producer and director, Caitlin Starowicz works on projects at the creative forefront of content creation. After earning a BA and MA in Cinema Studies from the University of Toronto, she earned an MFA in Film Production from the University of Southern California.
With more than ten years of experience in producing and directing all facets of television, music videos, web, and film, Caitlin has made quality content that airs on CBC, the Discovery Channel, The Documentary Channel, PBS, Hulu, Amazon Prime, BBC America, and more.
She is the writer and director of Savage Love, an award-winning horror film set in a 19th century carnival; and Polar Opposites, a documentary about pole dancing and third wave feminism, which was subsequently broadcast internationally on the Documentary Channel. She is also writer, producer and director of Best Friends Book Club, a 12-part web series for tweens, and producer of the Emmy-winning City Walk, a 6-part television series broadcast on Hulu. Among her many credits as director and producer, her video for Funny or Die!: Behind the Scenes of The West Wing Reunion featuring Allison Janney, Dulé Hill and Martin Sheen.
Her 2018 documentary, Mommy Wildest, for CBC's The Nature of Things, was nominated for three Canadian Screen Awards: The Rob Stewart Award for Best Science or Nature Documentary, Best Documentary Editing, and Best Documentary Cinematography. She was honoured by Hot Docs as one of 2016's top emerging producers. She is currently in post production on her documentary The Viking Next Door.
Her film She Walks with Apes follows the trailblazing "Trimates," Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas who studied great apes in the wild and the next generation of your women who were inspired by them to continue studying our closest cousins. It premiered on BBC America on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and was a top pick in Teen Vogue, Buzzfeed, and The New York Times. It is narrated by Sandra Oh.
Her latest film, Rebellion, is a documentary about Greta Thunberg and the youth movement in climate justice.
Her writing has been published in CineAction, CameraStylo, and appears in the British Film Institute. Her work is part of the film curricula at The Emily Carr University of Art and Design and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
