Born in Ottawa, ON, Canada to Korean immigrant parents, Albert Shin graduated from York University in Toronto with a B.F.A. in Film and Video Production in 2006. After graduating, Albert began directing, producing and editing music videos, short films and short documentaries before directing his debut feature, POINT TRAVERSE in 2009.

In 2014, Albert's second feature, IN HER PLACE premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before screening at numerous film festivals worldwide. IN HER PLACE went on to receive 7 Canadian Screen Award nominations including Best Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay. The film also won Special Jury Prizes at the Festival Du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal, the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and the Taipei Film Festival. Albert was the 2015 recipient of the Jay Scott Prize for Emerging Artist by the Toronto Film Critics Association.

In addition to his directorial efforts, Albert was a producer on Igor Drljaca's KRIVINA [2012] and THE WAITING ROOM [2015], both of which had worldwide festival acclaim. Together with Igor, they founded the Toronto-based production company TimeLapse Pictures, which specializes in producing artist-driven films to an international audience.
