Vanessa Matsui is a director-writer-actor of Japanese descent. She is in post-production on her directorial feature film debut; 'Midnight At The Paradise' (LevelFilm) and her first episode of TV for the CBC.
Selected as a Sundance New Voices fellow in 2019, Vanessa’s critically acclaimed hit web series Ghost BFF, which she created, wrote, directed for, and starred in, has won multiple awards including Best Web Series at the LA International Femme Film Festival and has been nominated for six CSA awards over two seasons including Best Web series and two nominations for Matsui for Best Lead Performance. Ghost BFF has screened at festivals globally and can now be found on Shaftesbury’s KindaTV.
Matsui also co-created Crankytown.ca (National Film Board), the world's first interactive website about getting your period, where she wrote and directed award-winning short films and received a Gemini nomination for Best Digital Non-Fiction Program.
An actress for twenty years, select credits include roles in ‘Letterkenny' (Hulu), 'Schitt’s Creek' (CBC), and 'The Handmaid’s Tale' (Hulu). Most recently, Matsui recurred as a guest star in the much anticipated National Geographic true-crime drama 'The Hot Zone: Anthrax', starring alongside Tony Goldwyn and Daniel Dae Kim.
