Becoming A Member
To become a DGC member in any given category, you must have a history of 150 days/credits on at least three (3) different productions in that category and have completed the applicable mandatory training.
However, there are some exceptions for certain positions:
- To become a member as a Commercial Art Director, you must have a work history of 15 commercials as an Art Director.
- To become a member as a Storyboard Artist, Concept Artist or Illustrator, you must have a history of 75 days/credits on at least three (3) different productions in that category.

Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, as well as a Quebec address, are required to complete an application for membership in the Quebec District Council.
Becoming A Trainee Member
If you do not have the necessary prerequisites to become a full member, you can apply to become a Trainee member and have access, for a reduced membership fee, to most of the benefits of full membership. Please note that in the DGC, Trainees are still members.
If you are accepted as a Trainee member, you will have a period of three (3) calendar years from the date of your membership, that is, until December 31st of the third year of your membership, to complete the Trainee process, i.e., the required work experience as well as the mandatory training related to the category concerned.
If you cannot become a Trainee member, subject to the provisions of the applicable collective agreement, you will have to work as a non-member.
To Become A Trainee Member You Must :
Accumulate 150 days/credits recognized on at least three (3) productions in one or more categories in the same department represented by the Guild and have not yet completed the required training;
There are several categories of Trainees:
- Trainee Assistant Director
- Trainee Assistant Accountant
- Art Department Trainee
- Trainee Assistant Location

Details For Art Department Trainees
It is understood that in the Art Department:
Days worked in the following categories can be combined for the 150 days/credits needed:
- Production Designer (PD) / Art Director (ART) / Assistant Art Director (1AR/2AR)
- Art Department Coordinator (ADC) / Assistant Art Department Coordinator (AADC)
- Draftperson (DRFT) / Set Designer (SD)
Storyboard Artists, Concept Artists and Illustrators
To become a Trainee member as a Storyboard Artist, Concept Artist or Illustrator, you must accumulate 45 days/credits on at least two (2) different productions in that category.
How to Submit Your Application?
If you wish to apply for membership, please email your CV, your Work History Report from another union (if applicable), as well as the required proof for the days/credits worked (if applicable), to Anne Arminjon, Membership Services Coordinator, at aarminjon@dgc.ca (please do not send in compressed .zip format).
Complete applications are reviewed by the membership committees twice a month. Please send us all your documents and proofs before the 1st and 15th of each month.
Once the membership application is approved, the membership forms and details will be sent to you by email.
