On Monday, October 24th, 2022, Radio-Canada announced its decision to no longer broadcast the Gala Québec Cinéma, arguing in its press release that "other strategies can allow us to increase the visibility of Canadian films and film artists more effectively".

The Quebec Council of the Directors Guild of Canada joins Québec Cinéma in asking Radio-Canada to reconsider this decision which, in our opinion, goes against the mission of the Canadian public broadcaster to promote Canadian culture. We firmly believe that the Gala Québec Cinéma plays an essential role in promoting Quebec cinema. Considering the current context that is very challenging for the audiovisual industry after more than two years of pandemic, it is particularly important to highlight the excellent work of filmmakers, creators, artists and technicians working in the audiovisual industry, and the Gala Québec Cinéma represents one of the rare opportunities in Quebec to celebrate these professionals.
