A Netflix Initiative

 

Course Description
This two-week course is an initiative of Netflix in partnership with the Directors Guild of Canada and L’inis. It is intended for anyone classified with the Guild as a Trainee Assistant Accountant as well as anyone with little or no experience as an Assistant Production Accountant who would like to work for American productions shooting in Quebec. The training will pay special attention to the accounting procedures of Netflix.
 
This is the first program of its kind for production accounting in Canada, this training will include:
 

  • Conferences with experts from different positions in the industry (Producers, Production Managers and Assistant Directors)
  • Comprehensive theoretical courses to help understand the concepts related to production accounting.

 
The training will be offered in French mostly. However, participants must be bilingual since the concepts presented are those that apply to American productions.
 
Important : Students who have completed this training will become part of a pool of trainees assistant production accountants who will have hiring priority as trainee on Netflix productions filmed in Quebec.
 
 
Cost:

Training costs will be paid in full by Netflix.  The selection of candidates will be done by the Guild. DGC Trainees Assistant Production Accountants will be prioritized.
 
 
Team of Trainers:
 
To ensure a diversity of knowledge and experience, the team of trainers is composed of  three Production Accountants who have worked not only on American productions shot in Quebec but also on Domestic productions as well. Various people from the film and television industry in Quebec (Producers, Production Managers and Assistant Directors) will join the team to present their work in relation with production accounting and to provide another angle of the relationship between the Accounting and others departments.
 
Trainers:
 
Nancy Partheniou – Main Trainer
With over 70 productions since 1984, Nancy has worked on American and European productions as well as Quebec television and film productions. Her experience and knowledge of the profession has led her to give numerous training courses in the past for Production Accountants and Production Managers through « Parlimage », a past training organization.
 
Marie-Noëlle Legault – Trainer, Payroll specialist
Having a Bachelor degree in Industrial Relations and a Certificate in Journalism from the Université of Montreal, Marie-Noëlle also worked from 2005 to 2008 at l’UDA as a counsel in the Labor Relations department. In December of 2007, she completed her training at L’INIS in the Producer Program for Cinema. Since 2010, she has devoted herself to Production Accounting for more than thirty productions from Quebec to American projects shot in Quebec. 
 
Marr Morgan - Consultant 
 
Marr Morgan has been a Production Accountant for over 35 years. She is experienced with a wide range of Productions including small Independents, multi-million dollar blockbuster features, as well as both Domestic and International/Co-Produced television series. She has worked Internationally and across Canada. Marr was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Directors Guild of Canada both Nationally and for the Ontario District Council. She is currently in her 3rd term as the Accounting Caucus Representative for both Boards
