DGC-SDC provides financial assistance to members who wish to attend Professional Development Workshops and Training Courses. Applications must be submitted in writing to the SDC prior to the beginning of the course.

Individual Assistance for Professional Development Criteria & Guidelines

Purpose
The Directors Guild of Canada, Saskatchewan District Council, (SDC) is committed to the continued professional development of its membership. To facilitate this development, the SDC offers the opportunity for all members to apply for financial assistance in order to build on their skill sets. Members are encouraged to apply for financial assistance, to participate in workshops, training courses, and university/technical institute courses which enable them to upgrade their current skill base. The skills learned must be relevant to the particular Guild job classification he/she is currently working in, and also enhance his/her opportunity for future career advancement.

All requests for financial assistance must be received by the SDC Executive at least one month in advance of the course start date. A resume, along with letter of acceptance in the class/workshop, must accompany the application form. All applications shall be reviewed by the SDC Executive, with funding to be adjudicated upon successful completion of the course in an amount determined by the SDC Executive. The applicant shall be notified as to the adjudicated amount at least one week prior to the course start date. All decisions of the SDC Executive shall be considered final. Financial assistance shall not be rewarded retroactive to the start of the course.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The proposed course must provide a significant professional development opportunity to further applicants on their career path.
  2. The applicant must be a Saskatchewan resident.

  • Travel, meals and accommodation, if applicable
  • Tuition
  • Training materials

Assessment Criteria

  1. The SDC Executive considers requests on a case by case basis using the following criteria:
  2. The relevance of the proposed course to the particular Guild classification he/she is currently working in.
  3. The extent to which the proposed course will advance the professional development of the applicant in his/her Guild category.
  4. The extent of other sources of assistance for the proposed course, including other funding sources and personal contribution. Note: other sources of support are encouraged and viewed as evidence of endorsement and commitment to training.
  5. Whether the applicant has received previous support from this program.
  6. Funding decisions shall be adjudicated upon successful completion of the course, in an amount determined by the SDC Executive.
  7. The applicant shall be notified as to the adjudicated amount at least one week prior to the course start date.
  8. All decisions of the SDC Executive shall be considered final.

Application Procedure
Applicants must complete an application form. All requests must be received by the SDC Executive at least one month in advance of the course start date.

Reporting Requirements
Successful applicants are required to submit a report of the activity supported by the program within 30 days of the course taking place. This report must include:

  1. A statement of actual revenue and expenses, and include copies of receipts.
  2. A comprehensive summary and evaluation of the course. Reports should include: description of the course value of the course to applicant including tangible evidence that provides proof of value whether you would recommend the course to other Guild members
  3. Where appropriate, attach course material, reports, programs, contact lists, etc, for use in the Guild resource library.

Note: All approved funding applications are to be applied to the course as stated in the application. Funds not used for stated purpose must be returned to the Saskatchewan District Council.

PA Membership Requirements

Directors Guild of Canada - Sask District Council

Production Assistant (P.A.) Membership Requirements

To become a P.A. Member of the Guild, the individual must work at least 90 days on 3 separate productions, and complete the following courses:

  • a) Set Protocol and Set Safety
  • b) SDC Traffic Safety/Flagging

Without all of the above courses, the individual must work 150 days on 3 separate productions to be eligible for membership in the Directors Guild of Canada.
